This is a quick easy pillow craft for the pirate lover in your life, and one that your child can take an active part in designing as well. A definite "keeper" of a craft that generations to come will delight in and enjoy as well.

Having a son who is in love with anything having to do with pirates and the seven seas is fantastic when it comes to always knowing what to look for in terms of decorating but extremely hard on the budget when shopping both online and in Brick and mortar stores for accents.

A pillow similar to the one described below was sold in many designer shops both online and off at prices ranging from $25 to $50 depending upon personalization and detail. Realizign that my pirate hadn't discovered Davy Jone's pirate booty, I knew I had to cut corners to be able to hit all the requirements for a "way cool pirate cabin" for my son.

This craft actually was one of the fastest we created for his room, and has turned out to be one of our favorites simply because my son took such an active part in it's design.

MATERIALS NEEDED

18" muslin/twill cream colored pillow (we purchased ours at TARGET for only $5.00, definite great deal for this money saving mom)

pirate buried treasure map designed by your young pirate.
The best way to begin this for your child is to draw the outline of how large you want the map to be. If you look at the picture shown with this article,. You'll see we created wavy edges to simulate the edges of a well used map. The details within the map are all up to you and your pirate of course! Be sure date your pillow either on the front or the back, it will be appreciated later and will help document this important time in your child's life as well.

Sharpie markers in various widths, colors and sizes. These are the key to the craft and will help make the map really look authentic.

Scotchguard spray to keep the pillow protected and safe.

fabric transfer film or old fashioned carbon paper. This is hard to find so when you find it, grab a bag full for future projects!
