The Starved Rock State Park and adjoining lodge in Utica, Illinois present the picture perfect wilderness weekend getaway. The state park itself is rich in Native American history and was heavily frequented by numerous Indian tribes like the Illinewek, who occupied the Illinois riverbanks from the 1500s to the 1700s.

Even today the surrounding pristine woodlands flaunt an abundance of trails, paths and bridges leading to wondrous sights like: canyons, cliffs, overlooks and waterfalls. Recreational activities at the park include: fishing, hiking, camping, boating, rafting, horseback riding and picnicking along the weaving Illinois River. Houseboats, jet skis and ski boats are available for rental. While golfing and antiquing are other outdoor attractions in Utica and its neighboring towns of Princeton, Mount Morris and Oglesby.

The Starved Rock Lodge is ideally situated amid this alluring setting with easy access to all of its spectacular sights. The 94 room sprawling hotel is built of stone and log and features a massive yet cozy lobby area complete with wooden beamed ceilings, rustic chandeliers and an immense crackling hearth at its center.

The lodge offers a plethora of fun activities and events. Trackless trolleys explore the park and advertise Ghost Tours, Fall Color Tours, Bald Eagle Tours and the North Pole Evening Express which includes hot chocolate and holiday cookies. Dinner cruises on the Belle of the Rock Boat deliver a river tour and then dinner back at the lodge. While the gourmet gift shop, Cattails, hosts wine sampling in their quaint tasting room.
