While most people think it's probably pretty rare to get attacked by a shark there are a few mistakes that you can make to improve your chances! I'm sure that you probably didn't know that sharks are not just only in the ocean, there are certain sharks which are in rivers as well. There are many shark attacks each year but the shark doesn't munch on you because you're a tasty looking human, the shark decides to bite into you because you look like a tasty looking seal.

Just like you've probably seen before, people swimming on surf boards through the water look very much like a seal. Add in the arm movements and leg movements and you have a real seal, to a shark. What you want to do is avoid that all together. Do not lay on your surf board and swim through the water. Another thing you want to do is avoid feeding times when sharks will be out, lingering and looking for food. These times would be right when the sun is coming up and right when the sun is going down. Also completely avoid swimming at night when sharks will be hunting as well.

The best thing that you can do to avoid sharks is swim in an area with many other people. Swim in designated swimming areas. Make sure that the water is nice and clear instead of really dirty because this dirty water will confuse a shark into thinking that you're a seal! Never swim close to people who are fishing or known fishing docks and areas because often times this is where the sharks will hang out to get some food.
