There is nothing that I enjoy seeing more than a parent who is actively involved in their child's classroom. Sending them off to preschool and leaving it all up to the teacher is a mistake that a lot of parents tend to make.

It is obvious that most parents have to work and sometimes conflict in work scheduling is one of the biggest barriers in preventing parental involvement in their child's preschool classroom.

When I suggest being "actively involved," It doesn't mean that you have to spend hours each day sitting in your child's classroom. Sometimes spending as little as an hour per month can make a difference in your child's world.

Listed below are some of the things that you can do to become involved in your child's preschool classroom.

Volunteer to read stories once a month

It is no secret that preschoolers love a good story. Can you imagine the pride on your little one's face at the mere sight of "their mommy" reading wonderful stories to fellow classmates?

Volunteer to be a room parent

As a room parent, you can help your child's teacher with some of the tasks involved in managing the classroom and interacting with the children. Obviously preschooler teachers are not in it for the money. Most of them do it out of pure love. When you are dealing with youngsters, you can never have enough help. I can assure you that the extra hand will be needed and appreciated.

Donate Items

There are a number of free, or low-cost items that can be donated to your child's preschool to help further their development. To get some ideas of what may be needed, check out this article. It will give you a list of things that preschool classrooms can use to enhance their learning experiences.

Volunteer to chaperone field trips

When taking youngsters on field trips, the more adults that are present, the safer your child will be. Chaperoning field trips will make your tyke feel special.

Volunteer to help out during holiday parties

The holidays are always hectic, even in the preschool classroom. You can make a world of difference by doing simple things like passing out napkins and juice.

I currently volunteer at my son's preschool and it's so rewarding for both me and my son (he is just so proud when I go in to the classroom to help out). I also volunteer to run the preschool's web presence and so I've established a Yahoogroup email group, a Qlubb.com page (for event and task management).

Love this article. This is an issue that I struggle with, especially since I work full time. I'm saving some vacation to help with holiday parties this year!

It means so much to the kids to have their parents around and they are also very proud when their parents contribute supplies.

I can tell you that my sister and bro-in-law are involved in their kids' schools, and the response from the teachers has been one of gratitude. In addition, my nephew has made a complete turn-a-round in terms of his performance. And these are not "helicopter parents" either. :>)
