On The Today Show, they have a segment that looks at recent happenings in the news and with celebrities. One of the things highlighted is the whole ordeal with Senator Craig. It is true that he is making himself look like a fool. There's no arguing that point.

However, the people talking said that it would be nice to see normal homosexual relationships rather than things like this that make homosexuality seem so suspect, undercover, and perhaps even dangerous.

The problem with this statement is that the only people who are responsible for the coverage of these types of stories and not covering other stories of loving homosexual couples is the media.

The people in the media were criticizing homosexuals as if there are no homosexual partnerships that exist with simply two people who love each other as in a heterosexual relationship.

Yet, this is not true. Most homosexual relationship are open and honest. It is only that the media do not focus on them. The media are catering to interests and increasing homophobia by what they air on news and television show. They promote homophobia by the stories printed in the newspaper.

There are never stories run about how a long time dating homosexual couple recently got married (or a civil union, if that term must be used). However, we do see those stories about heterosexual couples.

In fact, it is not just the media that are promoting homophobia. There are some religious groups shouting that people can change and that they were never really homosexual. There are laws being passed against homosexuals. Many books are being banned from school libraries because of even the suggestion of homosexuality. Of course, some of these books are great works of literature.

While we as a people cannot truly fix the problem that was stated on the today show, we can help. We can be advocates for equality of homosexuals. Of course, tit is silly that anybody has to do this as homosexuals are people, too. However, many others do not seem to see it that way. We can talk to others about how homosexuality is not dirty. We can be seen with our homosexual friends. We can encourage them to go on a date openly.

Good article. Just watched the movie "De-lovely" about Cole Porter and the way this movie treated the subject was better than usual IMO, although still controversial.
