Embarrassing Halloween Costumes/Moments

Like some of us I started dressing up as a kid for Halloween then abandoned the idea in high school, getting back into it in college as I joined the rest of the crowd.

When I was 18 and a freshman in college I had the bright idea of dressing up as a Crayola made out of poster board. Problem was, I couldn't sit down at the movies me and some friends went to on campus. Then, since it was that time of the
month, I messed up my costume.

At 21 I was editor of the college paper and dressed up as a Playboy bunny (back in my skinny days) then went to a party off campus. My photographer for the paper spent the whole night hitting on me and I had to keep shutting him down. My news editor, dressed up as an angel which she was the opposite of, blamed the whole incident on me and said I led him on.

I had a bipolar moment dressed up as Tinkerbell in 1992 while my fiancee Michael outfitted himself as a genie and we went to a recovery party. Michael redid my makeup after I made a disaster of it and some people made fun of my costume and childish ways. At the time I hadn't been diagnosed bipolar yet and was on no medication so my mood swings clashed with my happy costume.

In '96 I had moved to Fort Worth, TX and decided to rent a Jester costume for a huge party which would mark my first Halloween in this town. The problem was the shoes were way to big and as I crossed a busy intersection I walked out of my footwear by accident. After retrieving the clown-size contraptions, I spent half the night in my Jester costume in the corner waiting for my girl crush to arrive at the party which she never did though she promised she would. I had a cosmetic painted smile on my face and lots of happy finery which made up my costume. But I was miserable.

"You're the most depressing Jester I've ever seen," my friend James remarked.

I spent the rest of the night dancing with my best friend who was dressed up as Edward Scissorhands and her teenage daughter who was disguised as a gypsy. I still have the Jester mask in a frame though the cheap string broke off long ago.

wow-- I enjoyed reading this and sympathized with some of your costume woes. And the parties. My costumes have usually been a bit more subdued and unoriginal. Last year I went as Pirate a la Johnny Depp-- I got a really good response from that. :-) much better than I anticipated. hehe. But the year I went dressed in what was supposed to be mafioso, people thought instead I was supposed to be some handsome movie star from way back when ( think cary grant, clark gable etc) and you'd be surprised ( or maybe not) how bold people even sober people can be . I didn't mind though
