Botox is not just for cosmetic treatment anymore. Did you know that those with migraines are able to get Botox injections that can help relieve their migraines from up to 4 to 6 months? Some insurance companies will pay on the injections for the relief of migraine and for neck spasms.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Some migraine sufferers experienced immediate relief with injections in their foreheads and faces. The reason that Botox works physicians believe is because the Botox interferes with the nerves that transmit to the brain. The downside of the procedure is the cost. Prices start at about $350.00 per session. Imitrex and some of the other oral medications for migraines are more cost effective. Unfortunately they can cause other problems, such as stomach upset and tiredness.

A friend of mine is a frequent migraine sufferer. I used to get them a lot, but she got them several times a week. Part of the reason was because of deteriorating disks in her cervical spine. She tried everything to relieve the pain. Massage chiropractic, meditation, and of course oral medications. Nothing worked for long if at all. She heard about the Botox injections and in spite of the cost or if insurance would help, she decided to try it. The pain of the migraines was so debilitating that she was willing to try anything. For her it was like a miracle. She was migraine free for three weeks so far. She doesn't look stressed or miserable like she did before the Botox injections. Her quality of life has been improved immensely.

CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AND INSURANCE COMPANY

My friend was lucky enough to have good insurance coverage. Her insurance helped cover the expense of the Botox injections. They were administered on both sides of her upper spine and near her neck. They were not painful and she felt immediate relief. She is convinced of the benefits of the Botox.

I have done this and it is costly. I paid out of pocket. it was about $1200, but well worth it. It did last 6 months. I am scheduled for a series this week! I hate reading the cons, because the drugs can't be that good for you either.

Like you said, people use botox for cosmetic reasons, but in response to Jennifer's comment, when people are in pain they're willing to try almost anything. I don't completely disagree with what she's saying, but I have cervical spinal stenosis that causes EXTREME pain and discomfort. During a bout of pain I wouldn't think twice about giving this a try. Everything has side effects, especially prescrition medications. Detoxing my body and destressing sounds great, but it wouldn't do a thing for me. Thanks again for this information.

Yes I did forget to mention that it is a poison, I didn't realize that it was.

I think you forgot to mention another drawback. BOTULISM TOXIN is a poison, and invariably anybody who purposefully injects a toxin into their body is going to suffer some problems. It seems to me that doing a detox, both in terms of physical toxins and stress, is going to be a better solution over the long run.

I might see if I can give this a try :-)

Very interesting. I do agree with Nikki. If you are in pain and you find something that works you will do just about anything to get that relief. Too bad we even have to think about the cost of such things because of the health care system, which in my experience with my brother, SUCKS

Good article - But I don't think I want to inject poison into myself for any reason. I've found that accupuncture does wonders for my migraines, and would recommend that migraine or other pain sufferers try it. I was a skeptic until I had it, but it's been like a miracle for me!
