Americans Feeling "Bush Fatigue," Poll Finds

With little more than a year remaining in his term, it seems that President Bush might want to get out while he still can. Results of a poll released Friday revealed that a majority of Americans surveyed disapprove of President Bush's overall job performance, and nearly

three-quarters of the group were opposed to the manner in which he has handled the war in Iraq. Americans also disapproved of Congress's performance and found Hilary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani to be likely presidential choices in 2008.

The three-day poll, issued by Strategic Vision, LLC, of Atlanta, surveyed 1,200 likely voters in Pennsylvania. Participants were asked to identify their party affiliations for the poll, and 48 percent (576) said they were Democrats; 42 percent (504) said they were Republicans; and 10 percent (120) said they were either Independents or had a non-major party affiliation. Poll results had a margin of error of three percentage points.

The poll focused on several areas: the performance of President Bush, strategy in Iraq, and candidates for the 2008 presidential election.

The participants were mostly unified in their disapproval of the president in a variety of areas. A staggering 67 percent disapproved of Bush's overall performance, with only 24 percent expressing approval. The area in which Bush fared the worst in participant's minds was the handling of the war in Iraq: only 18 percent approved, while 74 percent expressed their disapproval.

"The president's poll numbers are anemic and his hold among Republicans is tenuous," said David E. Johnson, Strategic Vision co-founder and CEO. "Without support from his base, the president cannot recover his poll position."

I am SO sick of the man! I left the US soon after 9/11 vowing never to live there again until Bush was out of office. Now 4 years later, I'm so settled in Bangkok, Thailand and love my life here, I doubt I'll ever go back.

The war is abyssmal, the Justice Department may never recover, the economy is tanking. All of that means Rudy won't win the presidency - he's been too staunch a war defender and he reflects the same arrogance in defending past actions that Bush does (but he couldn't possibly do a worse job). Unless the Republicans pull a rabbit out of their hat, it is Hillary in 2008. She couldn't possibly do a worse job either - but she'll be up to her hips in poop when she takes office, thanks to Bush...

I'm just glad conservatives finally realized how destructive Bush truly is. If only they had realized it prior to 2004. Conservatives may scoff at that, saying they'd still rather have Bush than Kerry...but then I would argue you still are buying into the Bush Co./GOP Media Machine propaganda.

Ron Paul's a hypocrite. He says he's for personal liberty but he's anti-abortion. Dude, either you are OK with me making my own choices about my own body or you aren't. Poop or get off the pot. Actually, I don't like any of the choices this time around. Why don't we just kick all the bums out and start over?

Interesting analogy between Alban and Secretsides. Guess we will see what happens when the elections really do occur. Great article. Thanks

I had Bush fatigue in 2000...and Alban, Hillary will most likely be the next president, which will not make anyone but the most ardent HUA conservative long for "the bush years."

I cannot imagine ever looking at the Bush years as wonderful, although I wouldn't want Hilary either!

The Media wants a Hillary vs Rudy election. Hopefully the voters will change that in the primary. Either of these two millionares gets the job you'll look at the Bush years as wonderful. ;-}}>
