The prime challenge has been launched and the search for the right person to portray Biggie Small has begun. I was standing out side of the City Stage located at 435 W. 19th Street, New York City, New York at 9:15 am where a line up of competitors had formed with approximately 50 candidates already present for the event scheduled to begin promptly at 10: 00 pm and ending at approximately 2:00 pm on October 6, 2007. At that time having no knowledge of how many roles they had planned to fill that day, I found it strange to see the presence of only a few women. Resting assured that they would be along shortly, I took my place in line hoping for a chance to do a full write up of the entire contestant process.
I had discovered the event was taking place by reading briefly a poster I had passed by hurriedly in an effort to catch my bus. I quickly jotted down the address after getting on the bus looking to see what other information was on the poster as the bus pulled into traffic, but the distance made it impossible to see the details and being only a day away from the event I decided to just be there.
As I stood in line chatting and listening to the others express how they had found out about the event most by radio announcements, I noticed some news reporters, (all mentors in the business) gathering around taking pictures and interviewing with their press passes on display.
One newspaper reporter from the New York Times was on the scene, one of the earliest to arrive along with a reporter from the Blender's Magazine, I believe the reported responded (a big music magazine), with nation wide circulation. The real fun didn't begin until the big guns showed up with their television camera crews who began interviewing competitors of the event. In the process one news team handed one candidate the mic.
