It's almost impossible to find someone that doesn't have them floating around somewhere. Whether they are still a part of your movie collection or collecting dust in a closet, you can revisit those old movie memories on VHS without the loss of space that comes from having a massive VHS movie archive. The answer lies in transferring your movies over to DVD format.
There are several ways to do this, some more expensive than others but the costs to do such a thing have dramatically decreased. When DVD/VCR combos emerged with DVD-write capabilities one could expect to pay over $400 for the equipment. Then you stil had to buy the DVD blanks than ran upwards of $50 for a pack of blank discs.
Now, you can find the equipment at any major retail outlet that carries electronics, including WalMart, which has name brand DVD/VHS combos with write capability for as low as $120-$150
If you aren't keen on spending the money to transfer just a few movies, there are several places that will transfer your old movies to disc for you. Walgreens is one in particular that charges about $5 per transfer. This would be ideal for anyone who only wishes to transfer a few old movies or some home video to DVD.
The process is quite simple on both counts. With the push of a few buttons you can burn from VHS to DVD in the comfort of your home, or you can drop your movie off at select retail centers and come back when they are finished.
We had a collection of over 100 VHS movies, mostly Disney flicks and stuff from the 80's that are difficult to find on DVD. The space these movies took up in our living room was causing far too much clutter. After taking the time to transfer the films we were able to condense our movie collection into a more manageable space.
Gone are the days of failing tape, poor audio and head cleaning. The durability of DVD's and the now decreased cost of transferring media have made it accessible to more folks. I highly recommend looking into purchasing one of these combo sets. What's better, if you happen along a garage sale or flea market that is selling an old VHS movie you love, and cant find on DVD, you can pick it up and burn it right to disc.
