So you have a weekend with nothing planned and you want to get away. But where do you go and what do you do? Perhaps the Hendersonville and Brevard area of the Southern Mountains in North Carolina are the answer. Located just north of the South Carolina border, Hendersonville and Brevard have long been known as art and antique destinations for many years. With an abundance of lodging options, a variety of restaurants, and untold shopping options, a weekend trip to this area will only whet your appetite for a return trip.
To access this area the best route lies along interstate 26. From I26, exit off onto Four Seasons Boulevard in Hendersonville. This road designation mirrors the nickname of Hendersonville which is the City of Four Seasons. Regardless of the time you choose to visit this mountain town, you will enjoy a season of beauty and plentiful events.
From Hendersonville, take highway 64 west to Brevard. Brevard is nestled against the Pisgah National Forest and lies primarily in the French Broad Valley. Lodging options exist in both towns with such choices as Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, several independent motels, and a variety of Bed and Breakfast houses. For a truly memorable stay, a B&B will not only provide you a place to rest your head, but will typically include a breakfast for you Sunday morning enjoyment and relaxation.
While on the topic of food and dining, there are many options available for your consideration. If you arrive in time for lunch on Saturday, you might want to step back in time and visit the Soda Fountain on Main Street in Hendersonville. Restored and furnished as it well might have been in the early 1900's, the restaurant features an assortment of "pharmaceuticals" from years gone by and a traditional lunch counter. Other seating is available, however, at lunch time be prepared to wait. The menu features various selections from the grill as well as ice cream and of course sodas.
