An outdoor living space is an area outside the house itself, such as a porch, small garden, or patio, which is utilized much as an indoor room would be. In other words, this space becomes an extension of the home itself and is utilized much as an indoor room would be.
The first step in creating your personalized outdoor space is to determine what the primary purpose and use of the area will be. Do you enjoy cooking outdoors for the family and friends? Perhaps an outdoor kitchen and dining area is what you will be aiming for. Do you enjoy entertaining and want a space which will accommodate your friends in a relaxing atmosphere, a space for enjoying conversation and a good bottle of wine around a fire? Once you have determined what your goals are you can then begin the process of converting your current space and to beginning the transformation process.
A project such as this can become a do it yourself over several weekends or you may choose to have the project done by professionals depending on your skills and comfort zone. Perhaps the planning phase should involve a designer or architect depending upon what it is you are trying to accomplish. Regardless of how you proceed, make sure you know what the goals are and also make sure you allow for enough space. One common mistake is to plan an area and then, upon completion, discover you really needed more room. It is much easier and cost effective to do the job right the first time.
