Dating...There, I said it. This word incites fear the heart of most and creates sweaty palms, dyslexic sentences and a more than occasional nervous laugh. Where do you go to find someone to date, where the hell do you
look? When you do find that person, Lord only knows how you are supposed to approach them.
I have found dating made easy...wrapped in fun colorful paper and tied with a nice neat bow on the top...or maybe not. Speed Dating, one of the fastest growing forms of dating today, can offer you the motive, means and the way to finding that special person for you.
I had the pleasure of attending a speed dating event hosted by DateSwitch.com and was enthralled with the idea of finally getting the nerve up to go! I kind of felt like I was the lone pioneer on the Oregon Trail...I was crossing into territory none of my friends had even dared go.
The event was held on a Friday night, at a lounge that just happened to be close to my apartment. It was a bit of a stretch to get off work, get all gussied up and get to the location by 7:15 in Atlanta traffic, but myself and my three friends arrived to find it was a very laid back atmosphere that really set the mood for the whole night, in my opinion.
But let's rewind. I am going to give you this editorial in chronological order with my insights included along the way. If you don't read it all the way through, it probably won't make sense to you. Now, shall we?
Get Gussied
The old southern expression of "gettin gussied up" refers to puttin on your Sunday's Best, full face of make up, brand spankin' new panty hose and you can even pull those Easter shoes out of the box you were required to replace them in immediately after Easter Sunday service...Puttin on the Ritz, so to say.
I did a lot of planning and I swear my poor body was raw from trying on dresses. The importance of what I was to wear to this speed dating is this...you go on five minute "dates" with people and the nonverbal communication they receive is just as important as the verbal. While if one chose, they could dictate at least half of the message they are sending by body language and wardrobe, but I figured I would go with what I know...I would just be ME this time.
