"Experience Required: 2-3 years" - Ever notice that most postings require at least two years experience? That the ones requiring no experience usually end up being sketchy pyramid schemes? Ever wonder how you're supposed to get two years experience if no one will give it to you? And have you ever been frustrated that articles like this are written by 45 year old professionals who are not only so far removed from the job hunting process they couldn't possibly remember, but also were looking for their first job at a time when all you needed was a college degree? It's a different world now, and the job market is that much more competitive as a result. I know. I'm 23 and graduated from college less than two years ago. I understand how difficult it is to search with no results, to graduate from college knowing you're ready for the real world and end up spending months in your parents' house. I'm writing this in the hopes that you won't have as difficult a time as I did and that in the end, you won't make the same basic mistakes I made.

First, remember that nothing is beneath you. I don't say this to encourage you to take a position where you will be unhappy. I'm not telling you to sign on to the first place that will accept you. I'm just saying that half the battle sometimes is getting your foot in the door. So, if you can get offered a job within your industry, even if it isn't your dream job, consider it. Nothing is permanent. If you take a job and hate it, so what? Now is the time in your life to take chances, especially if you're single and not a parent. So, take a risk, and if you're unhappy, start looking for another job. Keep in mind, you will probably have much more success if you stick it out for at least six months, and in the meantime, you can talk to you boss about any changes that would make the position better suited and more enjoyable for you.
