My family has been making Quaker Instant Oatmeal a part of our breakfast routine for 27 years. I have purchased the generic or store brand instant oatmeals from time to time, but we really do prefer the Quaker brand, and it's really not that much more expensive when I buy it on sale. Quaker makes this oatmeal in a large variety of flavors, our favorite is the Maple and Brown Sugar.

One box contains 10 individual paper packets, and I love how easy they are to tear open. Simply dump the oeatmeal into a bowl and add boiling water. The directions suggest adding 1/2 cup of boiling water, but if you don't want to wait for water to boil, you can make it in your microwave but you'll need 2/3 cup water. Of course, if you like thicker oatmeal you use less water, and vise versa for the thinner consistency.

We have an instant hot water dispenser in our kitchen, and although it doesn't provide us with boiling water, it does get extremely hot (190 degrees), and this works well. After the water is added and it's stirred thoroughly, I find it needs to sit a minute to thicken up. This also gives it time to cool off a bit. My daycare children sometimes complain that it gets too hot. Of course, a nice way to make it richer and cool off the oatmeal at the same time, is to add a little bit of milk to the bowl.

We go out for breakfast every Saturday morning, and occasionally I will order oatmeal. It always comes with a dab of butter on top, and a bowl of brown sugar and small pitcher of creamer on the side. When I eat Quaker Maple and Brown Sugar, there is no need for anything extra. I certainly don't need any butter! This oatmeal is rich tasting just as it is.
