Bats are another popular Halloween decoration. You do not have to spend a lot of money making bat decorations. Simply make bats from egg cartons! Here is what you will need: the bottoms of egg cartons, crayons or markers, yarn or thread, and a needle.

First, take the egg cartons. Cut out a section of three of the sections making sure the three sections stay together in a row. If you have an egg carton that held one dozen eggs, you should be able to make four bats.

Once you have the egg cartons cut so that they are in sections of three sections each, turn them upside down so they look like three hills. On the outside two, cut an arch into the front so they look like wings.

It is now time to decorate the bats. Draw on any facial features you would like to see on the bats. Color the bats any color that you would like them to be. You may also glue on features using things like pipe cleaners, construction paper, and googly eyes. Use anything that you have that is handy.

Let the marker dry. Now this is the more difficult part.

You will need to do this for each bat you have made.

You are going to need to thread a needle with the yarn, thread, or even a rubber band.

Now, take the needle and carefully punch in through the middle of the top of the middle sections where you have most likely decorated the bat's head.

Pull the yarn all the way through so you can tie a knot big enough so it does not go through the hole that was made by the needle. Tie the knot so it will be on the inside of the head.

You want to leave a large section of yarn at the top of the bat so you can hang the bat wherever you would like it.

Make yourself a whole bunch of bats with different shaped wings and different expressions. Egg cartons are easy to find. Many neighbors and friends may be glad to donate their old egg cartons for this craft.

WARNING:

It is not safe for small children to use needles. They can easily cause injury by poking. They are also a choking hazard as well as yarn. Adult supervision is always needed when a child is making this craft.
