You can use a dried gourd to create this fun and long lasting Fall scarecrow. Gourd crafts are fun, long lasting, and have been around for decades!

I love this simple Fall scarecrow that uses a gourd as the head because it is so whimsical. You can use your Fall scarecrow in the front yard or stand him in a plant inside. If you make you Fall scarecrow with a small gourd, then you can even stand him in a plant as a centerpiece inside!

To Make a Fall Gourd Scarecrow You Will Need:

1 Dried Ground

2 dowels

Power grill

Wood screw

Paint

Shirt

Overalls

Bandana

Hat

Floral wire or 20 gage wire

The first step is to paint the face on the gourd that will be the head of the Halloween scarecrow.

Acrylic paint or exterior house paint will work fine.

You can also give you Halloween gourd scarecrow hair by using raffia paper ribbon, you know, the stuff that looks like a Hoola skirts. Brown paper bags or yarn also work well.

Go ahead and drill a hole in the bottom of the gourd, where want the neck to be. This should be the same width as your dowel.

Now, coat the end of the dowel with some glue and slip it into the gourd. This dowel needs to be the main body of the gourd scarecrow, so make it as tall as you want your scarecrow to be.

Now, to create the arms of the Halloween gourd scarecrow using the other wood dowel. Place it horizontally where you want the arms. You can use floral wire or 20 gauge wire wrapped in an X pattern around the two dowels to hold this in place.

Now, go ahead and button on a small plaid shirt on the scarecrow body.

The wood dowel arms on the gourd Halloween scarecrow can easily hold some overalls!!

You can add raffia or real hay stuff into the clothing to add depth and fill out the scarecrow!

Top off the gourd with a hat and then stab your Halloween gourd scarecrow into the ground!

Now, if you are creating this Halloween gourd scarecrow on a small scale, try to use doll clothing or children's clothing.

If you are creating a tall Halloween scarecrow for the font yard, choose a warty and small gourd to create a fun and funky shrunken head look for your Halloween scarecrow!
