One of my biggest pet peeves is people who illegally park in areas specifically marked for the handicapped! I have been witness to many people parking in those areas just because it was closer to the door of the store or because the space was wider than regular parking spots. I have seen some park there because they only plan on running in the store for a minute. The mayor of my city is guilty of doing the same thing. He parked illegally in a handicapped spot when he went to his therapy session. The reason? He wanted to make sure his car was in the shade for his dog inside. Well if this bothers you like it bothers me, here's a place you can go and report those who are parking illegally. The website is called www.handicappedfraud.org. The owner of this web site is Maureen Birdsall. She is part of a crackdown by residents, states and towns on the people who park illegally in a handicapped parking spot.

In most states, if you have a legitimate handicapped card, license plate or sticker, you can park in the areas designated for the handicapped. BUT it's illegal to borrow someone's sign and use it without the disabled person (who owns it ) in your car. If someone has died that had a handicapped parking sign, and you use it, it's also illegal.

Maureen Birdsall started this website after witnessing a woman in a red Corvette take a parking space that was marked for the handicapped. She was just about to take that parking spot for herself when the woman took it. The parking spot was outside a hospital in Walnut Creek, California. Maureen was taking her disabled, 92 year old grandfather to the hospital.

If you see a handicapped parking violator, record their sticker number and the number of their license plate. Go to the website www.handicappedfraud.org and post the information. Maureen also has some post it type notes you can leave on their car. They simply say : "You've been reported at Handicapped Fraud.org". These post it notes are free. Go to the website and get yours now! Maureen sends the reported violator information to the DMV. This takes you out of a personal confrontation.

I agree with you. I'm someone who has a handicap parking permit; if I can not park near the door then I don't get to do what it is I need to do. I can either walk around (slowly) in the grocery store to get what I need or I can walk from my car to the door. I can't do both.

Wes~ in the days of "yesteryore" the old and handicapped were shunned and sent off to die in an insane asylum type place. Just think if your mother had a walker and was by herself trying to get groceries to live on. Now she has to park so far away that she's exhausted and in danger of more health problems. Or what about a kid with sever asthma? I would hope you have more heart to care about the people who need a little help.

Really...this sounds like people raising a pointless stink about things...I am guessing in the days of yesteryore the elderly or the handicapped found some way to either manage or cope with their ailments. I don't park in handicapped spots, but I could give a crap less who does. Next someone will be mad because someone else is taking a poop in the stall equipped for handicapped people.

Oh, this makes me so mad. I see it all the time. The next time I see somebody violate this law, I'll report them for sure.

Very nicely written. I hate it when people park where they should not.

Having spent 10 years taking care of a quadriplegic brother-in-lust (we cohabitate)and hemiplegic mother-in-lust and a blind mother...I get infuriated. It's hard to find a place to park a van with a lift, especially when someone who doesn't need the spots take them.
