New Release Review of Jennifer Lopez's Brave
Jennifer Lopez is hot. She has a great acting career, a handful of records, and has recently produced her first movie. She has taken upon the music scene once more and recorded her fifth English studio album, called simply Brave. Here she has added a touch of pop into her urban style
which is sure to please any listener.
The flirty track "Stay Together" opens the disc, setting the stage for what the rest of the record holds. J.Lo combines a dance urban pop sound with lyrics that are simple but easy to relate to. "Hold It Don't Drop It" is set to be the next mainstream radio single. She sings "You don't know what you're doing/ What you're doing to me/ Trying to stop me can't stop me/ Cuz you got what I need." Crushing and addicted she's head over heels for the subject of this song, pleading not to ditch her.
One of the most interesting tracks may sound familiar. If you're a Desperate Housewives fan and have seen the advertisements, "Miles In These Shoes" will ring a bell. J.Lo is at no mercy in this tune. She's been up and down in her life and implies no one can go through what she has gone through. "Even if they tried/ They still can't walk a mile in these shoes/ They can't even lace them up right," her processed vocals sing. Does she think she's the only one who has hit rock bottom or came from the Bronx?
J.Lo doesn't slow down much on this record, with the exception of "Wrong When You're Gone." She breaks it down and sings sweetly over an urban hip-hop track. Not exactly the most generic lyrics, but she makes her point clear that when her lover is gone she is wrong about all the fighting. "Wrong When You're Gone" makes her almost sound like a pushover, easily admitting she's at fault and to blame for any argument.
Filled with danceable tracks, "Do It Well" is the current single. Whatever her love interest is doing, he's doing it well. She's saying she's never met a man such as him and he throws her off track. Brave also includes another version of the single. The closing track is "Do It Well" featuring Ludacris, where he comes in and breaks down a rap as an extended bridge of the song. A surefire hit on radio formats that play it.
