Class trips are an exciting event during the school year. An educational experience and a welcome reprieve from the confines of the classroom, children often look forward to their class trips with much the same excitement as Christmas vacation. Class trips can sometimes cause anxiety in parents, especially in Kindergarten or first grade. Your child will be taken out of the safety of the school environment and be transported to a public place. If your child does not take a school bus to school daily, this may be cause for another concern. Many children feel anxious about riding a loud school bus if they haven't done so before. Let us not forget that occasionally on the news is the story of a child who unfortunately gets injured or lost during a class trip. All of these factors can add up to a very stressful day for parents until their child is returned safe and sound with exciting tales of their class trip. Here are some parenting tips to make class trip day less stressful for parents and children alike.

Volunteer To Chaperon Your Child's Class Trip. Schools are often in need of parents to volunteer as chaperons for the annual class trips. Offer your presence for the day to share this exciting event in your child's life. You will get to accompany your child and their classmates on their class trip and will undoubtedly have a wonderful time. If you are at all nervous about your child's class trip, your fears will be allayed and you will have the added benefit of making a wonderful memory with your child.

Send A Note To Your Child's Teacher About The Class Trip. If chaperoning your child's class trip is out of the question, feel free to send a note to your child's teacher or place a phone call to them. Ask your child's teacher how many children will be assigned to each chaperon and any other question you can think of. The more information you have, the more comfortable you will feel in sending your child on their class trip.

Offering to act as chaperone is a great idea. I remember one year when a friend was beaten up on a school trip. That wouldn't have happened if one of her parents had come along. Sophie

Excellent tips. My husband always volunteers to be of assistance during class field trips...even now that she is homeschooled, they still do monthly fieldtrips with other homeschoolers!

Great advice! I have always been able to chaperon my children's trips, but I am dreading the day they don't need me.
