What is a lie? From the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a lie is a noun. A false statement deliberately presented as being true; a falsehood. Something meant to deceive or give a wrong impression. Is it okay to tell a lie? In my opinion, in most circumstances it is wrong to lie. There are times; however, that you have no choice, but to lie. For example, you come home from work and ask your spouse, "did you miss me?" If they said, "no", that would create hurtful feelings. By saying "yes", you made your spouse feel missed. This type lie is a deception.

Deception can sometimes be useful when romantic partners ask:

. Why are you looking at her?
. Where were you?
. Why didn't you answer the phone?
. Why are you late?
. Is there anything wrong?
. Have you ever thought about being with another person?

It doesn't feel good to be betrayed by someone you love. No one likes to think that a husband or wife may be lying, especially not in their own relationship. Often, our romantic relationships involve some secrecy and deception. So, why do people lie to those they love?

Love, rarely works the way we dreamed it would be! We tend to hold unrealistic values about love and marriage that seldom match reality. In some form or another, whether it is through concealment or fabrication, deception plays a role in all of our relationships. Most people; however, do not like to acknowledge this, especially when it comes to love and romance. But every now and then, people discover something about a romantic partner which makes the issue of lying impossible to ignore. Making such discoveries is unnerving because they violate our basic thought about intimacy and trust.

The truth can be used as a weapon especially in close relationships. For example, would you tell someone you love that they are not attractive anymore? Would you tell them that you think of someone else when making love? I think not! We like it when our spouses hide unpleasant facts from us. As long as we are not aware that they are hiding something, we are happy.

Very deep thought here, but also a lot of truth, it is probably very true that the only real reason for a lie is to prevent hurting another. Well done!
