Oriental Antique doors

Oriental antique doors from Asia, especially from China, Korea, and India, have a lot of carvings and ornamentation. Within the county, they have several regions and these are reflected on the doors that are procured from his region. If you are traveling to these countries, and visiting a specific region, there are many factories that specialize in old doors.

Finding the antique doors

Look up antique door traders/dealers on the internet and you would be able to find many dealers who are specifically in this trade. For example, in India, all regions have their very characteristic architectural style. The palaces of Rajasthan are vastly different to that of Himachal Pradesh or Kerala. Rajasthan doors show more royal scenes and are complete with elephants, warriors and other paintings on the doors. While doors from Himachal Pradesh or the Kulu Valley are made of sturdier woods and have more local scenes of forests and flowers in that region.

French and Spanish antique doors

There are a variety of French and Spanish Antique doors that are available. These doors are available for a variety of purposes. In the United States there are many Architectural salvage companies that store these doors. The doors can be used for a variety of purposes. French antique doors with their beautiful stained glass and etching look very pretty. Antique doors of Spanish origins have many engravings, can be checkered or engraved. The Spanish Antique doors have a lot of influence from the moors as well as Turkish and the Ottoman Empire. They are extremely sturdy doors.

Costs of the Antique doors

Remember that the costs of the doors can vary. They can cost as little as the modern doors or they can be very expensive. But when you buy the door, they can last you a lifetime. Usually doors start at $300 and can go up to as much as $10,000. Depending upon the age and the workmanship of the door, the prices can become quite steep. Glass panels and etching on glass makes the door expensive. If you are buying a particular period door, such as a Spanish 18th century door, it can also be very expensive.

Thanks for the great article. But now when I build my new house, I may just have to find a way to include an antique door in it somewhere.
