Being pregnant is hard enough but add to that the chances of traveling sometime during those nine months and one is sure to find the experience doubly burdening. Doctors won't allow most medications during pregnancy, so that option for comfort isn't available, and sitting for hours will only make you sore and hurting. There are a few options to help you through the travel time however.

Women who travel can experience leg cramps, nausea and vomiting, heartburn, increased urination and other discomforts. One option that can replace medication are Sea Bands. Sea Bands, which can be purchased at most drug stores, can help with the nausea, not only during travel but also throughout the rest of your pregnancy. My experience with them was great, even though I expected little results. The Sea Bands are just small wristbands that have a pressure point on your wrists. If the bands are put on before traveling, most people should have little or no sickness.

Prepare yourself and the company you are traveling with by planning to make restroom and stretch breaks every two to three hours. This is probably the most important thing to do when traveling. Pregnant women will want to take the opportunity to use the bathroom and move at these times.

When traveling by plane, ask for an aisle seat for a little more room to stretch and for easier access to the restrooms. Additionally, if you need to get out of your seat, you will not be burdening your neighbors.

Also when traveling, plan for the additional food and beverages you will need to take with you. If there is room, pack a cooler full of water, ice and nutritious foods like fruit, yogurts and Jell-O - lighter foods that may ease any discomfort. Take crackers, trail mix or any other carbohydrates that will help fill you up in between meals. This will cut back on the amount of time and costs of stopping for food during the trip.
