In a recent press release, the U.S. Dept. of Education released the names of 287 public schools that were awarded Blue Ribbon Award for excellent achievement under the No Child Left Behind Act. Out of the millions of schools across America, only 287 schools were honored with this distinction.

One of the most prestigious awards that a school can be awarded, the Blue Ribbon School Award is bestowed on schools across America every year. These schools will be recognized for their achievements in an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on November 12 and 13, 2007.

"These schools are proving that when we raise the bar our children will rise to the challenge. It takes a lot of hard work by teachers and students to become a Blue Ribbon school, and it's a privilege to celebrate their great efforts," said Margaret Spellings, U.S. Secretary of Education.

The complete list of schools that have been deemed Blue Ribbon Schools Award is available online.

About Blue Ribbons Schools Award
A Blue Ribbon School Award is the highest educational award that a school can achieve. Originally started in 1982 for high schools, the Blue Ribbon Award has expanded to all schools across America.

The No Child Left Behind law mandates that schools across America must make Adequate Yearly Progress in reading and language arts, and mathematics. Each state determines its own academic standards. Students are tested around the country to determine whether or not they are meeting their state's educational standards and goals.

Eligibility
Both public and private schools are eligible for the Blue Ribbon Award. The awards can be given to schools with children of any age, whether elementary, middle, or high school students are taught.

The schools must provide an academically superior education, or have dramatic gains in student achievement.
