We have all heard the remark that if you haven't worn it in a year get rid of it. Everyone has something in the back of their closet that they know they are never going to wear again but just wont get rid of it. Now is the time to do a little tossing out. Tip number 1 would be to take three boxes and label each one as follows, charity, keep and garbage. As you fill up the box marked charity close it and take it out of the house as soon as it is filled. Keeping it in the house just gives you time to change your mind about getting rid of those items. Think of this as making room for new things you have been wanting but had no room for at the time.Tip number two would be to start with one room at a time. In a kitchen get rid of things in the junk drawer, lids that don't match anything, pans that have worn out and any broken or faulty appliances. Tip number three would be outfit your cabinet doors with wire shelves that can hold lids, plastic wrap, tinfoil, and cleaning supplies. Pull out shelves and baskets are available in stores and online to help keep you organized. Try an under the sink pull out trash basket to free up some space and at the same time it keeps unsightly trash from view. Tip number four would be to try keeping a tool kit under the sink with hammer, screwdrivers, tape measure, etc that will be easy to find and keep your drawer free to store other things like dish clothes, dish towels and pot holders. If you don't use it get rid of it.
In the bathroom we all tend to have nearly empty bottles of cologne that always seem to end up at the very back of the cabinet. Take a lined trash can and pitch those space grabbers. The same goes for that closet in your bedroom, styles change and so does your body. Try matching up tops with jackets, pants and skirts. If you find things that just wont work with your wardrobe than toss them in the charity box. Buy an organizer to hang over a door for books, shoes, DVD's to keep things off your closet floor and out of dusty boxes. Tip number five would be to immediately take the boxes of trash to the curb, the charity boxes to the closest charity and to enjoy your new clutter free zones.
