Proofreading ones own resume is not an easy task. As with other documents, after only a few readings, it is possible to actually imagine that one is seeing what should be there, rather than what is really there. This is quite possibly why after hours of proofreading, job seekers inadvertently leave unwanted errors in their resumes.

The resume contact information is important and must be error free since it holds the key to moving the candidate forward in the selection process. In fact, typos, errors or omissions in the resume contact information are sure fire reasons that recruiters will discard resumes from potential candidates. Since candidates who blow the contact information will miss opportunities, the following checklist from BullseyeResumes.com can help job seekers proofread contact information for content, relevance and accuracy.

1. Limit use of multiple phone numbers. Recruiters won't necessarily call and leave messages at every one. Pick one or two at the absolute maximum.

2. Is your phone number current? It won't leave a positive impression if the employer gets a message that your phone is disconnected when they call or if you can no longer be reached at the number indicated on your resume.

3. Have you created a professional sounding voicemail? Is it too cutesy? Is there music that is far too loud? Is the mailbox message in another language? Are there distracting sounds like dogs barking?

4. At the phone number you have listed, will someone answer who doesn't speak English? Will a child answer? Will they be able to take a message for you?

5. Does your email address look professional? Are you using multiple email addresses? Have you changed email accounts recently and need to update this on your resume? Are you regularly checking the email account listed?

6. Is your address above your name? Make sure your name is the first thing on your resume.

7. Are you using a font that is too small to be readable? Many resume templates currently on the market use a default font that is sometimes too small.
