If you are into burning files to CD's or DVD's then you probably know that burning software doesn't come cheap. Probably the best burning software suite around is Nero and it costs around $80. This isn't too bad of a price to pay if you are doing all sorts of burning and need a complex program to meet your burning needs...but what about if you are simply trying to burn backup copies of data and files? I don't see the justification in spending $80 if you just want to simply burn data or an audio CD.

If you are in the category of users I mentioned above then you are in luck because Burn4Free CD and DVD is a free alternative that can help you with your burning needs. Now Burn4Free CD and DVD isn't going to give you as much control as a high priced program like Nero but Burn4Free CD and DVD does provide its users with the most basic tools for burning. Burn4Free CD and DVD allows users to burn files to CD's and DVD's mainly for backing up your files. You can also burn audio files to a CD in most of the popular formats like MP3, WMA, WAV, and OGG.

The program is very limited, it doesn't allow for burning DVD to DVD and you can't burn DVD's compatible for playback on a DVD player. This functionality is expected in later releases, along with the ability to burn a CD to CD which is also not an ability of Burn4Free CD and DVD.

So what can you use Burn4Free CD and DVD for? Basically you can create audio CD's with audio files from you PC or you can burn all of your data onto a CD or DVD. This is very limited functionality I know but hey it's a free program and beats paying $80 if you just want to make some CD's and have your data backed up to DVD from time to time.

Burn4Free CD and DVD seems pretty stable although a lot of users have had problems with the burning of audio files to CD's. Most of the problems are due to the CD/DVD player not being recognized by the program. Burn4Free CD and DVD has a website that is not very well put together and seems to have been thrown together last minute. You can check it out here, they have some good info on the program and some tutorials and a FAQ for users who can't seem to get the program working.
