So, you've decided to start practicing Elimination Communication with your child? Congratulations, you're starting a journey that will teach you to pay close attention to your child, to respond lovingly to their cues, and to communication in ways you never would have thought possible.

Now, what do you need in order to start Elimination Communication? Absolutely nothing. After all, elimination communication is practiced around the world where there are no disposable diapers, toilets, or other pottying gadgets. However, what those women have that we don't have is the support of family and the community as they potty their children. So, lacking that (most of the time) those of us who practice elimination communication today have come up with a few items that while not required for success are certainly helpful.

The most useful elimination communication gear to have around will be a potty, some form of baby bottom cover (disposable diaper, cloth diaper, training underwear, specialty EC clothes), and some resources.

Let's work backwards and start with resources. As mentioned before all the women that have practiced elimination communication before us have and concurrently around the world have the support of family and community. In fact, in most places around the world the phrase "elimination communication" doesn't mean anything to them, they don't have a name for it because it is just another part of raising their baby. We are not so lucky most of the time although before you resign yourself to doing this alone you should check online because as parents realize the benefits of elimination communication there are support groups springing up around the country.

Takeaways
  • Elimination Communication can be done with a bare minimum of supplies and cost!
  • Elimination Communication support groups can be found around the country and online.
  • Elimination Communication is growing in popularity as parents recognize it's many benefits.
