For adding a warm and cheerful touch to home decorating, yellow and gold color schemes are hard to beat. Rooms seem cozier, somehow, with these bright and sunny shades. Here are ideas for decorating kitchens with old and new yellow accessories. Shop for these at online auctions and websites selling antiques and collectibles and home decorating objects.

Vintage Corn Pottery
In the 1930s through 50s, the Shawnee Pottery Co., and others, produced kitchenware decorated and shaped like corn. Shawnee had several lines, including the patterns of Corn King, Corn Queen, etc., that varied from bright yellow to white corn with green husks. The wide variety of pieces produced by these companies included plates, bowls, cups, saucers, casseroles, salt and peppers and more. A few unusual corn-shaped pieces, such as a Corn King teapot with sugar and creamer, would provide a whimsical focal point and bright spot of color for your kitchen. Online auctions and antiques sites often have a category specifically for Shawnee, a pottery that still remains popular with collectors.

A related idea is to shop for a set of dishes made to hold individual ears of corn on the cob. These vintage and modern dishes are usually decorated and shaped to look like corn, and have been produced by many companies through the years. Look for them online or at local antique shops and thrift stores. To carry out the corn theme, a hanging basket of dried or artificial corn would be attractive in your kitchen. Three-tiered baskets are readily available and made of a variety of wire, fiber, or basket weave materials.

Banana Split Dishes
A different yellow accessory that would be cute displayed in a kitchen is a set of banana split dishes. Look for those that are colored and shaped to resemble bananas. These have been made by a variety of different companies. Check for banana split dishes at sites and stores that sell old kitchenware, as well as those that sell new home decorating items. A hanging three-tiered basket filled with bunches of artificial bananas would tie in well with the banana split dishes.
