Horror films are at their best when they are unintentionally funny, cliche-riddled bombs. I have fought back tears (of laughter) while watching a slasher flick in which the special effects were anything but. I've groaned watching proverbial shit sandwiches unfold that demand little from B-movie actors/actresses who deliver nauseatingly poor performances. And on at least one occasion, I've fallen asleep during Halloween marathons touted as pants-wetting extravaganzas.
I could regale you with more examples. But hell, why not just let some of the true horror stories speak for themselves?:
Killer Klowns from Outer Space
My apologies to those who cower in fear at the sight of Bozo and the gang. But come on; this stuff is seriously ridiculous. The premise sets the stage for a craptastic voyage into clown country, a world invaded by aliens masked in demented, made-up clown faces. The cherry on the sundae would have been a guest appearance by John Wayne Gacy Jr. himself.
Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!
I'm cheating a bit here; you could argue that Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! is blatant comedy. (Why else would a filmmaker subject you to singing fruit?) This one's a definite train wreck from which you can't turn. A special task force assigned to battling homicidal tomatoes? That's cinematic gold. Personally, I think Little Shop of Horrors did this better.
