What is the saying, "50 is the new 30". Do not adopt the feeling that your life is pretty much over. You are in charge of you. We no longer can say, "when I grow up I want to do.....". We are here and our time is now! We have arrived! But sometimes we can be our own worst enemy. We become negative and self defeating and just don't know how to have fun anymore. We are usually very good at becoming puppets for those around us, but not for ourselves.

50 can be the best time of your life! Most likely we are situated in a career, we are somewhat financially stable, we are happy that our kids are grown and off to lives of their own.

25 things we hope you are NOT doing:

1. Don't adopt an "old" attitude. Think positive and have a can-do spirit.

2. Stop wearing those 'old" clothes. Buy a trendy item. Look at some magazines and see what sort of outfits you can put together.

3. Stop expectation. People will never always do what you want them to. We cannot change then, we can only change ourselves.

4. Don't pick battles that don't matter. Ask your self if this soon to be argument will matter in the realm of things.

5. Don't shy away from teenagers, if you are in their presence, absorb their spirit.

6. Stop regretting past experiences. They are all lessons and helped to get us to this point.

7. Don't live in a house that no longer serves your purpose.

8. Stop the idea of thinking you cannot experience something new because you are 50.

9. Do you live solely for yourself? Do for someone else when you can.

10.Stop using work as your life's purpose. A job is what you do, it is not who you are.

11. Try to not be careless with your health.

12.Don't put up a wall with strangers. Maybe it's a new friend you haven't met yet.

13.Don't dump all your troubles on your friends and family.

14. Don't "believe" you will have bad luck.

15. Realize the freedoms that come with empty nesting. It is not a time to be sad.

16.Don't waste today....LIVE!

17. If someone would like to treat you to a cup of coffee and conversation, don't refuse.

18. Don't bury your head in the sand, be informed about our world and whats going on in it.

19. If you are single, don't think you can't experience a younger partner.

Takeaways
  • Live every moment as if it's your last.
  • Being 50 does not give you the excuse to live as an old woman.
Did You Know?
We sometimes have to give ourselves permission to act out against old thinking.

ah, mwtsaginaw, that is not always true~people often prefer older workers, because they tend to be better workers and are more reliable then young ones. I also agree with Nikki.

I never heard "50 is the new 30," but I HAVE heard, "Age ain't nuthin' but a number." I've been guilty of some of your items here, so thanks for slapping me in the face. When I perused your 15 things TO do a moment ago, some I found humorous, so if you were dead serious I apologize for the comment. Also hate to say this, but, "If you have turned 50 and need to find a new job, be prepared to be shit on, because most people won't hire you." -- Mike
