Cinnamon, Is It A Help Or Not In Dealing With Diabetes?

There are scientists in Oklahoma that say it is not proven that cinnamon helps people with Type 2 Diabetes. Frankly, I would like to say I don't think they have done enough testing or research.

Through personal experience I know that it DOES work not only for me but also for many other people I have told about it. My husband is a good example. He is on insulin twice a day and was having a time with his sugar. Since he has been taking cinnamon twice a day his glucose levels have dropped from 389 to 146 in only four weeks.

The important thing to know is, that it will not happen overnight. It does take at least three to six weeks for most people, before they begin to notice the change on their glucometers.

When I first started taking cinnamon I bought the pills over the counter at Walmart in a bottle marked Cinna-Max. This bottle contained 500mg capsules and it said to take it twice a day. I would take one in the morning and one with my evening meal. My husband thought I had lost my mind and let me know that I was just wasting my time and his money. However within three weeks my sugar began to drop a tiny bit each morning when I took it. When I went for my A1C test (which is the test they give you to see how your sugar is doing over an extended period of time, for those of you that are unfamiliar with it) my sugar was slowly creeping down.

My doctor was most pleased and that was when I told her that I'd been taking cinnamon tablets. She said she had no knowledge of this and she was going to monitor my progress. Well, she has and my sugar now is down to 6 on the A1C test, which is considered normal. She has taken me off the Actos pills that were making my feet swell, anyway. I was thrilled and my sugar continues to be in great shape. We are aiming to get me off the one other tablet I take for type 2 diabetes, but not sure when that will be. Time will tell.

I would have put rice with it anyway Julia. I love the recipe and thanks. Yes Barbara, that shot could well raise your sugar level it is a steroid. Cinnamon will help anyone on a diet and also with their glucose level, by the way. Thanks Halloweens Coming and Sherry, I'm happy you got something from the information. I try to be knowledgeable when it comes to things like this, even if some say it doesn't work, I know that it does for most people.

PS: As I was hitting post I realized I left the rice out of the recipe. Add one cup uncooked rice to the lamb mixture. Oops.

TSussy I had a cat named cinnamon once, she was cinnamon colored and one of the best natured cats I ever had. Lisa, Irene and Aly for commenting. Julie this recipe sounds delicious, it reminds me a bit of a Greek recipe I also have with grape leaves and cinnamon. I love lamb anyway, but don't get it very often as it is so high in cost. You have to be frugal living on a fixed income. Thanks for sharing it with us.

An unusual recipe containing cinnamon (that smells great while cooking) Lebanese Grapeleaves 1 jar grapeleaves, 1 lb. lamb (ground), 1.5 tsp. salt, 1/4 tsp. pepper, 1/2 tsp. cinnamon, 2 tbsp. butter (melted, lemon juice (from a bottle is ok). Soak canned grapeleaves in water for 1 hour (replace water several times) to remove salt. Combine all ingredients except leaves. Cut the excess stems off the leaves, then with the semmed side facing you and shiny side down, fold ouutside edges of the leaf to the center and roll the leaf into the shape of a finger. Place in saucepan. Sprinkle the rolled leaves with lemon juice then add water to just below top of grape leaves . Cover and simmer for 45 minutes (low heat) Delicious!

Cinnamon -- I have a cat named Cinnamon. I think that's wonderful news!! I'm a big fan of alternative methods to address health issues. I'm happy for you and hope the cinnamon continues to work and becomes a testament for your doctor too!

That is alright Lenora, I understand about cinnamon buns, I even love cinnamon toast and teas in the evenings. I don't think a little cinnamon on a bun would do the trick for a diabetic. But cinnamon seldom hurts anyone unless you have an allergy to it. John I wrote that for you, but I sincerely hope it will help others as well. There are so many suffering from this disease in this country, that anything we can do to help is a blessing.
