Every year, American Idol searches the globe for the best singers in America. Some seasons American Idol finds superstars like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood and sometimes their winners are not quite as successful. But what if Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks and Jordin Sparks all returned and competed in the ultimate American Idol competition? Here is how the six American Idol winners would finish.

1. Carrie Underwood
The top American Idol winner is a close competition between Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson but Carrie Underwood barely pulls it out. Some Hearts, the debut album by Carrie Underwood, sold almost twice as many copes as Thankful, the debut album by Kelly Clarkson. Carrie Underwood also won two Grammy Awards for her debut album. Kelly Clarkson would also win two Grammy Awards but not for her very first album like Carrie Underwood did.

2. Kelly Clarkson
Kelly Clarkson has had a very successful career since American Idol that includes two platinum records and two Grammy Awards. Kelly Clarkson has gained a lot of popularity from American Idol and might be even more popular than Carrie Underwood but only after a longer period of time. Time well tell if Carrie Underwood can match Kelly Clarkson in sales with her second album. I think Carrie Underwood also fits the idol role better than Kelly Clarkson. Carrie Underwood seems like the sweet girl next door type while Kelly Clarkson has a little bit of an attitude.

3. Jordin Sparks
Season 6 was probably the worst season of American Idol. For a while people seriously had to wonder if Sanjaya Malakar would the American Idol. The only reason I continued to tune in to American Idol week after week was to see how far Jordin Sparks would go. Every week Jordin Sparks sang better and better and had a personality that blew the others out of the water.

Takeaways
  • Carrie Underwood is the top American Idol Winner.
  • Kelly Clarkson is a close place.
  • Some contestants that didn't win but should get consideration are Bo Bice and Chris Daughtry.

Kelly Clarkson is a much better vocalist than Carrie Underwood. Carrie has achieved national success, while Kelly has made an impact on the global community, something Carrie has not and probably won't ever achieve. It should also be noted that Kelly's success has a lot to do with Carrie's success. Kelly became the first Idol to become a Grammy winner, symbolic of the acceptance that the music industry was starting to show to talent show winners. In my opinion, American Idol owes as much of its success to Kelly as Kelly does to Idol; Carrie's simply riding on the wave on the Idol phenomenon.

Taylor Hicks talent wise is not that good its no wonder he is fading off in the sunset. Carrie Underwood has to be the standout so far. Sparks will eventually climb the charts as she produces more and more.

I didn't watch "Idol" much until the last two years, but what I've seen of the season that Fantasia won tells me that she shouldn't have. Not that she isn't talented, but Jennifer Hudson and Diana DeGarmo blew her away. She had a good sob story, and that gave her the push she needed, in my opinion.

Even though I don't completely agree with your assessment, I do think this is a great article. In my opinion, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, and Taylor Hicks were all huge mistakes and never should have won their respective seasons. I also believe that Chris Daughtry is so talented that he was in a completely different league than all of the other Season 5 contestants.

I vote for Chris Daughtry! I believe he didn't win because America knew that he didn't have to win to become a popular singer and that he could actually do a better job without being the American Idol :-), which he has. Elliot has a CD out now and is doing well also.

Taylor Hicks is my Favorite. Although I also like Carrie and Kelly.

Taylor Hicks is still my favorite! Although Bo Bice didn't win, he comes in a close second.
