Lake Park, North Carolina is a small village outside of Charlotte, NC. It is located in Union County. With its picture perfect streets and sidewalks lined with houses, town homes, and condos, it is like going back in time to a day when things were more peaceful.

First let me explain that it is a town not a housing development...well wait a second...actually it's both.

Lake Park is governed by a town council, and its citizens get all the basic amenities (including taxes) that a town should provide. Trash collection, police protection, water, sewer, etc. However, it is also a housing development planned out by one person and built out by many home builders, and it comes complete with a Home Owners Association (and dues) that governs the residents.

If you are looking for a (mostly) quiet place to raise your children, away from all the craziness out near the interstates and highways of Charlotte or the crowded streets of Monroe or Indian Trail, then Lake Park is a good place to be. Most everyone is friendly and helpful. The streets are relatively quiet, and there are plenty of parks and playgrounds for your child to enjoy. Sidewalks are on both sides of almost every street in town, there are street lights on every street and back ally, and ponds that you can fish (provided you get a NC fishing license).

There is a town center with a few shops. Not what you would hope to find, but ok. Li's Chinese is the best I have ever eaten, and the hair salon is great as well. Other businesses include a dry cleaner, doctor's office, and daycare. There are several churches that meet in town as well. It is the perfect place for family, retired folks, and even singles that are looking for a more relaxed life.

But remember that you will be governed by two different groups...the town and the Home Owners Association. You will pay town taxes, HOA dues, and county taxes, so be prepared to basically be triple taxed. And also be prepared for the Home Owners Association to not do much in the way of their responsibilities. Like most HOA's, they like to complain and fuss at people for not following the rules, and then turn around and let the guy down the street do the same thing.
