It is commonplace for our privacy to be invaded by the United States government. The government can have your phone record, copies of your e-mails, travel record and much more. But that is not good enough. For additional information to add to your ever-growing file, you are also required to fill out a Census form every ten years. According to the constitution, you are required to give out your address and number of people that live at residence. This is not so intrusive, but the United States government is requiring far more information. They would like to know your gender, date of birth, income, nationality and race, and how you are related to the people in your household. I say it is none of there business, and already plan on refusing to fill out the 2010 Census form. For those of you who believe the government would never abuse the Census information, they already have. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, the United States government used the census records in WWII to find the Japanese-Americans to put in concentration camps. Nearly 112,000 innocent American citizens of Japanese ancestry had their rights stripped away using the Census form. source Due to the Freedom of Information Act, we have found the Department of Homeland Security is also tracking all Arab Americans with the United States census form. If you have Arab ancestry the government intends to keep track of where you live. source Margo Anderson from University of Wisconsin and William Seltzer from Fordham University have been documenting the abuse of census information. If you want to read about the dangers of the Census form, here are some of their published papers. It is an invasion of our privacy and un-American. The United States government does not agree, and warns that citizens will be punished if they refuse to provide their personal information.
