This interview is with Kristen ___, who has requested to leave her last name out of the interview for fear of repercussions. She is currently a junior at Central Washington University studying Education, and has lived on campus the last two years. This is her first year living off campus.Katherine: Thank you for letting me interview you for publication on Associated Content. So, tell me about your experience living on campus the past two years at Central Washington University.
Kristen: Well, it has been interesting! I am from a small town, and lived pretty sheltered, so it was a shock to move away to college. On campus living has proved to be almost as bad [in the party sense] as off campus.
Katherine: How so? Can you give me some examples of issues you dealt with on campus?
Kristen: Well, in my dorm, everyone always smoked pot. It came through all my vents and just sat in my room. It was disgusting. Then on the weekend, the campus grounds became a drunken walkway for all the students going to parties all over.
Katherine: Is Central Washington University drug and/or alcohol free?
Kristen: Drug free, I am sure, but it is not a 'dry camps' so to speak. There are no rules against any alcohol.
Katherine: And now that you live off campus, is it easier to deal with party issues?
Kristen: Not at ALL! I don't even feel like I live off campus! [Laughs to herself] I live like a mile away, and there are still drunk people every night; at least the pot smoke has decreased.
Katherine: So, what problems do you see with this atmosphere?
Kristen: Well, people just aren't getting things done. Three other girls in my class who I was friends with failed out last year because they were partying too hard. Another friend was in the hospital three weeks ago
Katherine: Do you party, at all?
Kristen: I won't lie, sometimes I go out, but I know my limits. I don't get trashed and then try and walk or drive home. And I haven't flunked out yet...
Katherine: I see. Well thank you for the interview and hopefully we can talk more about other issues you see at the school.
Kristen: Your welcome. Thanks.
