Golf cart tires are one of the most important parts of your cart. There are a few things you should know in order to maintain them correctly. This article will give you a few tips for maintaining golf cart tires.

Inflation

You always need to keep a check on your golf cart tires. Tires of the standard size should be inflated between 20 and 22 pounds per square inch. If there is too little pressure in the golf cart tires, the outside of them will wear quickly. If you use too much pressure, the center of the tire will wear quickly. Also, golf cart tires with too much pressure will reduce the amount of traction you get on the ground. If you are using the vehicle off-road, then you should use golf cart tires with a little less tire pressure so that you can gain extra traction.

Mounting

You should always mount golf cart tires properly on the right side of the cart. You can tell if they are on properly when the tread appears to go towards the front. If your golf cart tires are mounted properly, they will effectively channel dirt and mud to the outside. This will help keep them clean and lasting longer.

Speed

Golf cart tires are only designed for low speeds. They cannot withstand the stress of the high speed of rotation they would endure at faster speeds. If you want to enhance your cart to go extremely fast, you will need to buy tires other than the standard size. Also, the wheels that the golf cart tires are attached to cannot withstand high speeds, so you will need to get wheels that are approved by the Department of Transportation.

Wear

You should always keep a check on the amount of wear your golf cart tires have. Bulges on the sidewalls of the tires are one of the main signs that there is internal damage and the tire needs to be replaced. If there are no visible symptoms, you can use a penny to measure the level of wear. You simply place the penny into the tire grooves and see how far is goes down. The deeper it goes, the higher the amount of wear on the golf cart tires.
