Planning a party in the Chicago area? Why not make it a theme party? Theme parties are all the rage in the United States as many people are discovering new and exciting ways to entertain friends, family members and even employees. No matter who you are entertaining, a theme party is sure to be a big hit.

Some popular theme parties include era parties, such as a 1970s party, complete with music, decorations and even clothing. Planning a 1970's theme party is both easy and fun. To get your party guests in the mood, develop a custom invitation online inviting them to your special "theme party." If you are planning a 1970's theme party, for example, you can create an invitation using 1970's lingo, such as "swinging cats," "hip," and "grooving'." The cover of the invitation can be something like this:

"Hey, you swinging cats! Get out your best polyester and slip on those platform shoes for a swinging party that's hap-pen-ing!"

On the inside of the invitation, you should put down that this is 1970's party, so your guests don't think you are on drugs or have lost your mind. Then put down the date, time and address as well as a number to call in response. Tell them to wear 1970's clothing.

Next you can take a trip to the local Goodwill or thrift store to pick up some vintage plates. Vintage 1970s plates and glassware is abundant in thrift stores for a good price. You don't have to have a matching set - have some fun!

Decorations can be those that were popular in the day. You can cover your table with a vintage tablecloth and put some fake plastic flowers in the center. Fake plastic flowers were big in the 1970s; today they are giving them away at thrift stores. Go to your craft store to get some macramé material and tie it around your napkins as makeshift napkin holders. Once you get started with the decorations, your imagination will take over and you'll be able to come up with many different things.
