Exercise comes in two mains formâ€"aerobic and anaerobic. Aerobic means “with oxygen”. Aerobic exercise is designed to burn fat so that the body can derive fuel for the exercise. Anaerobic exercise allows the body to obtain the fuel necessary for exercise from the burning of sugar.

Exercise does not always have to be intense in order to be beneficial. Any exercise, from the most mild, to moderate, to the most extreme will burn fat. Mild or “light” exercise will aid the body in its removal of lactic acid. Lactic acid is considered a waste product, and its removal from the body allows the cells to be stimulated, thereby undergoing a regeneration process.

However, if the goal of exercising is to burn fat, rather than sugar, it is very important that several guidelines be followed:

Someone who is exercising should remember to breathe deeply. Strong, deep breaths should be taken into the body through the nose. The breaths should be held for a few seconds, then expended strongly through the mouth.

Exercise should be performed at a level that does NOT produce discomfort. It should be possible for the person exercising to carry on a normal conversation during the course of the exercise. On a scale of one to ten, with one being lowest, and ten being the most effort expended, a person should try for what would be considered seven out of ten.

Exercise should be done as often as possible, preferably each day, for approximately 45 minutes.

As exercise is continued, a person will begin to notice different benefits. Energy levels will increase, and a person will not need as much sleep as before in order to feel rested.

Exercise in any form benefits the heart. The heart will become stronger, and in fact will increase in size as the body adjusts to the changes brought on by regular exercise.
