This was the first way to connect to the Internet. However, after listening to a tone, it looked like the headset was shoved into two miniature plungers. How aesthetically pleasing!
2. Osborne 1
Today when we think of portable computers, we think of laptops and notebook computers. We tote these small things, sometimes bemoaning the fact that 3 lbs. (the weight of a large tub of margarine!) is just too heavy to carry! Yet, back in 1981, people on the cutting edge of technology toted the 24 lb. Osborne 1. It had a 5" monochrome monitor (compare today's full color 13" monitors) and two floppy disk drives. It was even suitcase shaped!
3. Motorola DynaTAC 8000x
This was the first truly portable phone. It was actually wireless. In 1983, the phone cost over $3000! It actually weighed 28 oz. and was 10 ft. tall, minus the length of the antenna. Just imagine how the Motorola Razr phone got its start!
4. Microsoft Windows 1.0
We all have to start somewhere. However, this operating system looked much more like a colored version of DOS. It was definitely clunky looking. Now we have Vista. It may be much prettier, but as for operation, that decision will be left to the users.
5. Nintendo Virtual Boy
This looks like some eye test on a stand or perhaps a portable peep show. It was meant for people to experience 3D scenarios. However, the 3D was only in black and red, so it was not much of a show. There's still a fan base, but after 1995 was over, Nintendo no longer sold this unit.
6. Tiger Electronics Furby
While there are some people who think these things are horribly ugly, there are others who love how cute they look. No matter what, they are definitely good for scaring dogs.
7. iMac Flower Power and Dalmatian
Mac computers definitely have their fan base. People seem to love the different colors of the iMacs. However, even the fans did not go for Flower Power or Dalmatian. While the soft hues are easy on the eyes, the designs of these computers look more like shower curtains or at least like they belong in an Austin Power's movie.
