There are several different brands of frozen chicken breasts available to the consumer. One of those is Wal-mart's Great Value Grilled Chicken Breasts. Is this brand really a great value ?

The Facts:

Wal-mart Great Value Grilled Chicken Breasts is in the frozen foods section of your Wal-mart Neighborhood Market or Wal-mart Super-center. The package contains 12 fillets that weigh approximately 85 grams each or about 3 oz. each. The package states that they are fully cooked and are a "glazed fillet shaped breast patty with rib meat". The package also states that they have a smoked flavor. The nutrition values are : 120 calories each serving (1 patty) with 7 grams of fat, 2 of which are saturated. They have 15 grams of protein in each serving.

The Review:

This is a Wal-mart product that I can heartily recommend. The quality is great. My family prefers the taste of this frozen chicken breast product to that of the competitors. I always keep a package in my freezer. Sometimes, we eat them in sandwiches or as the meat part of a meal. My husband sometimes takes a couple of frozen patties in a baggie in his lunch box to work. Then, by lunch time they are ready for him to pop in the microwave and in a very short time, he has a hot meat to go with the vegetables he has chosen to carry with him. One of the best ways I have found to use them is as a quick addition to rice or pasta for a quick meal of chicken and rice or tetrazzini. They can also be added to any processed dinner you bought and then found that it did not have quite enough chicken in it. I just pop 2-3 of the chicken breasts in the micro-wave of a few short minutes and then use a knife and fork to cut them into bite size pieces, then add to whatever dish I am cooking.

The cost of this product is very reasonable. I paid $7.97 for the bag of 12 at my local Wal-mart. That works out to be 66 cents each.

There is one warning on the package, which I have also found on other products of this type. One would think that a meat product would be safe for those who have gluten or wheat allergies, but that is not so. Most frozen breast products do have wheat and soy in them.
