How Non Techno-Savvy Parents Can Offer Cyberspace Guidance to Their Children

Let's face it; the whole world has really evolved. It's a whole new world for this generation of parents. Some parents may not have even touched a computer until they stepped into college. Even some, have not had any experience with computers until they were
introduced to them in their workplace, replacing the typical office equipments like type writers, adding machines, etc.

Today, computers and technology labs are part of most elementary school system. Children are also more exposed to using computers, cell phones MP3 players than a television set. With the way technology has advanced through leaps and bounds, parents who are non techno-savvy, also known as cyber-challenged or techno-phobes, are faced with the challenge of having their children benefit from using technology without being exposed to cyberspace risks.

Parents should educate themselves to different security controls they can use to protect their children. This can be done by working closely with the internet providers in finding ways to lock access to certain sites and put parental controls. Also ask about ways how the network connections you use at home can be secured from cyber-hackers who will not only try to steal your children's identities but find ways to exploit them too.

I agree that parents should place the computer where it is visible to all. That can help protect children and parents can see which sites their children are visiting. Sophie
