During Indiana University's Celebrate IU week (October 13-21, 2007), the music school will perform 30 musical shows and performances, the 18th President of IU will be inaugurated, and the dedication of Simon Hall, the multidisciplinary science building will take place.

Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music will be participating in a major way during Celebrate IU week.

Indiana University's 18th president, Michael A. McRobbie will be inaugurated on October 18 at 3pm in the Indiana University Auditorium. The public is invited to attend the inauguration and the reception immediately following it.

Indiana University's Herald Trumpeters will perform Inaugural Fanfare, a piece composed by Professor of Music David Dzubay for this occasion specifically. More than 200 IU faculty, delegates from learned societies, almost 100 colleges and universities, national foundations and organizations, and former presidents of Indiana University will participate in the robed march at the beginning of the inaugural ceremony. It is estimated that the march will take 20 minutes and it will accompanied by Christopher Young, Professor of Music, who will be playing the organ.

Two-time Grammy award-winner Sylvia McNair, senior lecturer and soprano at the Jacobs School of Music, will also be performing solos during the inauguration ceremony.

President McRobbie will deliver a keynote speech regarding his vision for Indiana University and its future at the ceremony as well.

The Jacobs School of Music will host two inauguration concerts in honor of the new president's inauguration. At 8pm on October 18th in IU's Auditorium the Jacobs School of Music's Philharmonic Orchestra will perform with internationally-recognized pianist Andre Watts, who is also a Professor of Music.

A second concert will feature IU's Jazz Band, lead by David N. Baker, a world-renowned composer and distinguished Professor of Music. He recently received the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts' Living Jazz Legend Award for lifetime achievement. This concert will take place in the IU Auditorium on October 21st at 7pm.
