When we got the movie, Wrong Turn, I thought it would be different. Unfortunately for me, it wasn't the case.
Last night was the second time I have sat down to watch Wrong Turn. I hated it the first time but we rented the sequel (don't ask me why) and figured we should get a refresher about what happens in the first. I thought I was going to get a headache watching it.
Ok, maybe I shouldn't expect much from a movie that has the heroes fighting a bunch of mutated hillbilly cannibals. But, when your cast includes Desmond Harrington and Eliza Dushku, you would think the producers would have taken advantage of their potential. Instead, they made yet another paint-by-numbers slasher flick.
The thing I found irritating about it was the fact the movie makes Dushku and Harrington's characters out to be two very bright people who have both book smarts and common sense. But, when it comes right down to it, they really weren't any brighter than the dumbest horror movie victim in any other movie.
For example, early on in the movie, the four surviving cast members find themselves trapped in the cannibals' home watching one of their friends being eaten. When the cannibals are done, they fall asleep. The cast members, trying to escape before they are discovered, have the presence of mind to hold the spring on the screen door so it doesn't squeak but they don't think to grab the shotgun, the bow and arrows, a knife or anything else in the room that might be used to defend themselves? I found myself saying "please kill these people. The world does not need them to breed and raise stupid children."
