Smaller Car Still Big Enough for My Family

We aren't officially car shopping yet. But, the lease on our Chrysler PT Cruiser runs out in a few months and, since we aren't going to attempt to buy it, we need to start checking cars out.

The 2007 Chevy Cobalt came highly recommended to us from several sources. That's why, when we had a free weekend, we decided to test drive one. And, I left impressed.

My first impression of the Cobalt was "It's too small." We are a family of three and we spend a great deal of time in our car. Because of this, space is high on our priority list. In fact, the only reason we leased our PT Cruiser was the fact it had more room than the other cars. From the outside, the Cobalt didn't look like it would fit this need.

However, when we got inside the Cobalt, my concerns went away. Even though the car looks small from the outside, we found the interior was large enough to keep the three of us comfortable. Well, to be truthful, it probably will be too small when our daughter is a few years older and we need more leg room. But, by the time that happens, we would probably be looking for another car anyway.

I was also impressed with the trunk space in the car. Again, from the outside, you would think it didn't have much room. We were pleased to discover that, even though it wouldn't hold as much as our PT Cruiser, there was plenty of room in there for our normal errands.

The test drive is what put the Cobalt on top of my list of potential cars. I had plenty of room to move around while in the drivers' seat and, even though the car was a bit lower to the ground than I was used to, the visibility was actually a bit better than what we have in our PT Cruiser. To test the handling, I did something I haven't done in a while; parallel parked. And, it passed with flying colors.
