In a world that is mainly populated by horrible National Lampoon rehashes and American Pie knock-offs, "Superbad" shines through as the one thing that may be able to save the mature teen comedy. Perfectly wrapping up the end of the summer season, Superbad had me in stitches.

Starring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, Superbad has all the ingredients of a successful comedy. The director, Judd Apatow, has a proven track record in the comedy genre with films such as "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up", and Superbad features cameos from stars from those films such as Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Jonah Hill, as always, is marvelous in Superbad, and pulls off crude and horny like no other person could. And, even though the movie is technically a redux of "American Graffiti" or "Dazed and Confused", I believe that Superbad pulls it off with style.

The general plot, and I use plot very loosely, is the mission of two teens to get girlfriends before the end of high school. Also, I use the word 'girlfriends' loosely, being that half of the movie is one really long sex joke. Either way, as standard with teen comedies that take place in only one day and one night, everything that could possible go wrong does, and the movie ends on a very high note of hope for these two young losers. Without spoiling too much of the movie, everything works out pretty well for our two anti-heroes in the end.

Superbad is filled with moments that are laugh-out-loud funny, and in some moments downright uproarious. When you boil down what makes a successful comedy, this is it. Superbad kept me hooked throughout the entire experience, and the plot is humorous enough to keep you wondering what could possibly happen next to these teenage calamities.

Superbad is a film that I would recommend with high regards to anyone looking for a good laugh. Those who are easily offended may want to stray away, or be warned before viewing that it is offensive, but it is oh so good. Superbad has definitely saved the comedy genre for another season at least, and the name Judd Apatow, in my opinion, is well on the way of becoming the new "National Lampoon".
