Girls with Guitars Need Not Apply: Catching the Donnas on Tour

Sex, Divas and Women Rock Radio!

The past week I had the opportunity to catch two Donnas shows.

Philadelphia was the spot of the first show at World Café Live, a nice, intimate venue close to the 30th Street Station and what looked to be Drexel University. The second was at Highline Ballroom, another great venue just around the corner from Chelsea Market. The Donnas and the
chance to score some great food? Priceless.

It's amazing how much The Donnaholics really stick together. What a faithful group of fans. I imagine back in the day, being a Donnaholic would be similar to being in the New Kids on the Block fan club. My mom never let me sign up for that fan club, but she did buy me NKOTB sheets. I've never figured out why she let me sleep on NKOTB every night, but wouldn't let me carry a fan club card.

I would cry every night in my Hypercolor shirt and kiss my picture of Jordan Knight before going to bed. Somehow, I think there is one Donnaholic (who shall remain nameless) that still does this.

Hold on, my penny loafers are giving me a blister...and this scrunchie is making my hair hurt.

I had only really communicated with the group via Women Rock Radio chats or MySpace. I had not really been on The Donnaholics message boards-but I see that as something which will change.

These shows in Philly and NYC have been on my mind for months. I took my vacation from work for this, and was counting down the days until I hopped on Amtrak and started my journey. The last time The Donnas were touring the East Coast, I was taking the LSATS. Rock out or lawyer up? I chose the second one. At the time in my academic career it seemed like the right decision...but man, maybe I should have rocked out!

The first thing you might notice at these shows are that The Donnaholics take up the first row. We get there early, we stay late. This is in no way like church on Sunday mornings... (Does anyone actually get that joke?) You can hear and see Caitlin, Allison, Danny, Fabianne, Michaela, Chris, Mark, myself along with a host of others screaming loud and rocking hard.
