Rugs come in different shapes, sizes, textures, and prices. It is not a simple task to choose a rug. Oftentimes homeowners find themselves overwhelmed with choices available in rug specialty stores and home improvement stores that they would end up coming home empty handed.
As a general rule of thumb, you need to consider quality of craftsmanship and appeal when you choose a rug. The higher the quality of the rug, the higher the price tag is. The challenging part is to know if your choice is well-crafted and that you are not wasting your money.
What to consider prior to buying a rug:
Decide on your budget. How much can you really afford? Knowing how much you are willing to pay for a rug can help in choosing the stores to purchase your rugs from. Some people buy one of a kind rug as investment. Those that are hand-woven Persian rugs that are made of wool can be very expensive and can have a very good resale value as you see in auction houses. On the other hand, the lower priced rug for day to day use can be very practical if you only want to use the rug to anchor a room.
Decide how you will use the rug. It is important that when you choose the rug's durability to define its purpose. If the rug will go under a table and chairs in the dining room where scraps of food can potentially stain it or will it be used in a playroom where your children can lay down on them as they play. You would have to choose a high stain-resistant rug in the former and a delicate comfortable one on the latter. Deciding whether the areas you will use the rugs is a high-traffic area or if you are using the rug in a room that is rarely used can help in streamlining your choices of texture and resistance to stains and dirt.
