We are all familiar with those candidates representing the two "big" parties' for the next presidential election. We see them everywhere and it becomes easy to forget that the United States is not a country with only two parties but candidates like Christine Smith could change that.

I recently had the opportunity to interview Christine Smith, Libertarian candidate for president. Representing the third largest party in the country in the next election is something Ms. Smith has waited a lifetime for and she intends to offer voters a true option in the next election.

What made you decide to run when the realistic odds are that you won't win this election?

I feel called to help save America. I'm giving the American people a real alternative to the corrupt status quo of the Democrats and Republicans who are responsible for the terrible state our nation is now. I will take my campaign as far as it will go, and I know good will be accomplished in the process.

I ask the American people to be voters of integrity this time; to vote their conscious and values; to support a candidate they are truly for (rather than simply voting against someone). I live my life as a possibility thinker, and believe that when I follow my heart, the path I take is always going to result in good being accomplished.

Martin Luther King, Jr. didn't consider the odds when he began his fight for equality; Rosa Parks didn't consider the probability whether her action would be such an enormous catalyst for change; those who are part of changing this world for the better live by faith not by sight, they follow their heart, and regardless of the "odds" do the right thing. All great inventions, as well as all great and significant social changes (such as abolition of slavery, giving women the right to vote, etc.) emanated from those who focused on possibility thinking not probability thinking.

I live my life doing all the good I can do each day. I do not have to know the outcome or destination to know I'm on the right path.

Why is the libertarian party an alternative to the two-party system?

Excelent article. So far, I am supporting Ron Paul (which makes me a lightning rod for, well, EVERYBODY!), but I really like Christine Smith's views, especially on the Second Ammendment. Whether or not she wins, I am happy to see Christine and others like her running for any federal office. My dream is to someday have a government who don't treat grown men and women like babies! GOOD LUCK, CHRISTINE!
