Well, it's about time a high ranking officer in the Military had the guts to speak the truth. Although, much I'm sure, to the absolute chagrin of the Right Wing Neocons amongst us.

If you haven't heard, Ret. Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez characterized the Iraq war by making some of the following statements:

"There is no question America is living a nightmare with no end in sight"

"Continued manipulations and adjustments to our military strategy will not achieve victory"

"The best we can do with this flawed approach is stave off defeat"

"National efforts to date have been corrupted by partisan politics that have prevented us from devising an effective, executable and supportable strategies"

"At times, these partisan struggles have led us to political decisions that endangered the lives of our sons and daughters on the battlefield. The unmistakable message was that political power had greater priority than our national security objectives."

"Overcoming this strategic failure is the first step toward achieving victory in Iraq"

"Without bipartisan cooperation, we are doomed to fail. There is nothing going on today in Washington that would give us hope."

"Too often, our politicians have been distracted and they have chosen loyalty to their political parties above loyalty to the Constitution because of their lust for power"

"Congress has failed its job of oversight"

"Who will demand accountability for the failure of our national political leadership involved in the management of this war"

"They have unquestionably been derelict in in the performance of their duty. In my profession, these types of leaders would be immediately relieved or court-martialed."

"While the politicians espouse a rhetoric designed to preserve their reputations and their political power, our soldiers die"

"Our military alone could not achieve victory"

"Our National leadership ignored the lessons of World War Two as we entered into this war and to this day continue to believe that victory can be achieved through the application of military power alone"

Takeaways
  • "Our military alone could not achieve victory"
  • "Congress has failed its job of oversight"
  • "There is no question America is living a nightmare with no end in sight"

Yeah Deez, I saw him on C-SPAN too, but when asked to name names, he said something like, "Later." Sorry ass. If he's going to speak out, he should go all the way. BUT as I try to think of this with some human consideration, maybe I'm wrong to judge like that because he is obviously distraught....... Plus his lecture to the media was bullshit, accusing every single reporter in the room of caring about nothing but their next front-page story. I liked when the one fellow asked him, "Since you have questioned our ethics, what do you think about the military establishment's ethics?" He ducked that one too.
